Job Summary:

Under general supervision, this position performs preventive maintenance tasks and is responsible for the daily servicing of transit coaches, vehicles, and other equipment.

Essential Job Functions:

The following functions are not intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities.

  • Check and adjust the fluid levels in the following systems on transit coaches, passenger vehicles and service vehicles (rolling stock)
    • Engine, transmission, cooling, steering, and windshield washer
  • Refuel rolling stock
  • Empty transit coaches fare box vaults
  • Visually inspect rolling stock for potential defects and report the potential defect(s)
  • Wash the exterior of rolling stock
  • Steam clean engine, transmission, axles, and the entire undercarriage of transit coaches
  • Perform scheduled fluid and filter replacement, lubrication, and pit inspections
  • Perform vehicle exchanges
  • Perform light bulb replacements on rolling stock
  • Other minor clean-up, spot cleaning, and trash removal

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Requires knowledge of the field of assignment and physical ability sufficient to perform thoroughly and accurately the full scope of responsibility as illustrated by examples in the above Essential Job Functions of this Job Description.

  • Basic understanding of the mechanical function and operation of engines and vehicles; fueling and lubrication requirements of gasoline, diesel, hybrid, electrical powered vehicles; methods, principles, and standard practices used in fueling and servicing heavy-duty vehicles; and occupational hazards and safety precautions followed in heavy-duty mechanic shops.
  • Ability to Work efficiently with minimal supervision; follow oral and written instructions without difficulty; perform all assigned tasks in a productive, timely, efficient and safe manner; work as an effective team member and establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; communicate effectively with other employees and the general public using courtesy, tact, and good judgment, and to act as a positive representative of the District; meet position attendance requirements; maintain written and computer records; and work in all types of inclement weather for the entire shift including heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind.
  • Medium - Heavy Work: Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds frequently, and/or up to 25 pounds constantly to move objects.
    • Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing/listening, seeing/observing, repetitive motions, carrying and driving.

Qualifications:

Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job are acceptable, which typically include:

  • A minimum of two years of experience servicing automotive or heavy equipment, including fueling, lubrication, and oil changing
  • A valid Oregon driver's license and a driving record acceptable to the District's insurance carrier.
  • Possession of or the ability to obtain a valid Class B CDL with a P (Passenger Endorsement) issued by the State of Oregon within three (3) months of employment is required (LTD will provide training to attain full license).

Special/Additional Requirements:

  • Must be willing and able to work any day and any shift as assigned. Shifts are assigned by seniority.
  • The current shift scheduled hours are from 8:00 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. and receives a shift differential of $1.00 more an hour.

Compensation:

This position is a full-time, non-exempt position, eligible for the regular union benefits package. The pay range starts at $20.93 hourly with a shift differential. LTD provides competitive benefit package and pays 100% of the medical, dental and vision premiums for the employee and their dependents.
