General Summary

Under general supervision, this position receives, dispenses, and maintains an inventory of transit bus parts, supplies, and other inventory; and assists with record keeping and reporting of inventory and fleet maintenance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

  • Responds to requests from Fleet Maintenance and maintains open communication at all times.
  • Provides counter service; Issues parts and supplies to mechanics as needed.
  • Receives, inspects, and stores parts received from vendors.
  • Helps maintain the parts warehouse in an orderly manner.
  • Helps maintain security of the inventory of parts and supplies.
  • Performs cycle counts of inventoried parts and supplies.
  • Receives and contacts vendors to find out status of orders.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Fiscal Responsibility

  • Incumbent follows procurement policies and procedures with regard to financial decisions, however, they do not have direct financial authority.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job. Education and course work can substitute for years of experience. Typical qualifications would be:

Experience:

  • Two years of experience in the receiving, issuing and inventory of automotive or diesel equipment parts and supplies.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of Oregon Purchasing Law; Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and other federal acquisition regulations.
  • A valid forklift operator's certificate - or must pass within two-weeks of hire. (Will be trained onsite.)
  • A valid Oregon Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the District's insurance carrier.

Competencies for Successful Performance of Job Duties

Knowledge of:

  • Methods, principles, and standard practices used in maintaining an inventory of parts and supplies; procedures and clerical processes involved in the receipt, storage, security, and issuance of parts and supplies; nomenclature of equipment parts and maintenance; general mechanical function of motorized vehicles and equipment; and occupational hazards and safety precautions followed in heavy-duty bus shops and inventory warehouses.

Ability to:

  • Use and interpret information contained in parts, service, and materials catalogues and manuals; determine the quality and quantity of goods received in relation to prescribed specifications; prepare and maintain routine records and reports; operate a powered fork lift; use computers to enter and retrieve inventory data and extract inventory information; work efficiently with minimal supervision; follow oral and written instructions without difficulty; perform all assigned tasks in a productive, efficient, timely, and safe manner; work as an effective team member and establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; communicate effectively with other employees and the general public using courtesy, tact, and good judgment, and to act as a positive representative of the District; and meet position attendance requirements.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

  • This position will work onsite with no options for remote work. Will sometimes be required to work and/or attend meetings or events in public and at all LTD locations.
  • This is a Union Position represented by the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) 757.
  • This position is a full-time, non-exempt position, eligible for the regular union benefits package. The starting wage is $24.37 per hour, and the current top of the wage scale is $32.76 per hour.

Travel

  • Travel within the metropolitan area is required.
  • Occasional travel outside of the region may be required.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

  • Work performed will be primarily in an internal environment but will have work duties in an external environment in all types of weather conditions.
  • This position will be required to handle heavy duty bus equipment:
    • Lifting - up to 75 lbs. without assistance;
    • Carry - up to 75 lbs. without assistance in the distance of 1 - 300 feet;
    • Push/Pull: pallet jacks, carts, basic parts from shelving, etc.;
    • Have the ability to: Bend, Squat, Twist, etc.
