Brief Overview of the Teacher Position and Classroom Environment

The RCC classroom is a flexible, alternative learning environment where students experience academic success while gaining skills to support their transition to independence.

The Regional Crisis Center (RCC) teacher is responsible for the development, coordination, and implementation of educational programming in their assigned classroom. Highlights of this position include:

  • Small class sizes: no more than 10-12 students per class
  • The curriculum is already established and mostly consists of credit recovery for students.
  • All work is completed during working hours - no take-home work!
    • You will work Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
      • Morning prep time from 8:00 am - 9:00 am
      • Lunch between 11:30am - 12:30pm
      • Afternoon prep time 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
  • Most students are in 8th - 12th grade
  • Lots of support in the classroom
    • Full-time instructional assistant aiding in the classroom
    • 1-2 program staff aiding in the classroom
    • Additional support is available from case managers, therapists, and program staff when needed

*It is important to note that the RCC school is year-round. With that being said, there are approximately 3 weeks of no class throughout the summer months (June - August). Two weeks of no class over winter break. No class during spring break in March. No class during multiple other holidays throughout the school year.

Essential Qualifications

Qualified candidates must have a current Oregon teaching license or are close to obtaining one.

We encourage candidates to apply if they are working towards getting an Oregon teaching license whether that is transferring a current license from another state or are on the verge of obtaining a valid teaching license.

New graduates are encouraged to apply!

Experience working with adolescents with special needs and/or behavioral issues is preferred as is some knowledge of SPED and IEPs.
