General Summary

As a Transportation Program Sales Specialist, you will be responsible for driving sales growth through the acquisition of group pass sales. This role requires a proactive approach to generating leads, cultivating relationships with local businesses, school officials, community groups, governmental and non-profit agencies, to close sales efficiently. The ideal candidate should have a strong sales background with exceptional interpersonal skills. In addition, this position supports the Marketing Department as a backup for other department outreach as directed by the Marketing Supervisor.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Maintain, oversee and promote all aspects of Lane Transit District's (LTD) Group Pass Program (GPP), Vanpool, Emergency Ride Home, and Student Transit Pass (STP) programs.

2. Generate and contact new sales leads to increase the number of organizations in the Group Pass program.

3. Build and maintain positive relationships with local businesses, school officials, community groups, and governmental and non-profit agencies to maintain or increase program participation.

4. Work closely with Procurement to develop and monitor contract(s) for the GPP, Vanpool, and Student Pass programs.

5. Collaborate with Marketing to execute promotional campaigns aimed at increasing group pass sales and implement the campaigns throughout the year.

6. Work with local schools to market, educate, and train their staff on the administration and promotion of the STP program.

7. Increase program utilization within participating organizations by hosting outreach events or other marketing efforts.

8. Develop Standard Operating Procedures for the program areas assigned and cross-train other Marketing staff on program elements.

9. Coordinate purchasing and ordering of materials and supplies for the program and inventory control.

10. Research best practices for the programs and work with department leadership to modify the program to improve outcomes.

11. Update and maintain program information on the LTD website.

12. Work with the Digital Marketing Specialist to develop social media posts on a consistent basis to promote, educate and/or remind the community about these services and how to access them.

13. Work within the Umo Mobility portal to issue passes, set-up clients, and troubleshoot problems.

14. Maintain data on all programs and use to prepare reports and communicate program outcomes.

15. Assist with community outreach and other events which could include occasional evenings or weekends.

16. Assist as back-up for other marketing staff on core functions as needed.

17. Complete other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position does not supervise others.

Fiscal Responsibility

  • Incumbent does not have direct financial authority but will be responsible for maintaining program contracts.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job. Education and course work can substitute for years of experience. Typical

qualifications would be:

Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 - 5 years' experience in program support and development, sales, community outreach and marketing.

Preferred:

  • A bachelor's degree in public or business administration, marketing, journalism, public policy, planning, psychology, public relations, or a related field from a recognized university.

Competencies for Successful Performance of Job Duties

Knowledge of:

  • Communications and Media- Knowledge of media communication and dissemination techniques and methods. This includes alternative ways to inform and educate via written, oral, and visual media.

Ability to:

  • Sales and Marketing- Experience with promoting and selling services or products. This includes marketing strategy and tactics, generation of leads, sales techniques, and sales control systems.
  • Fluency of Ideas- The ability to come up with a number of ideas about a topic (the number of ideas is important, not their quality, correctness, or creativity).

Technology Skills:

  • Microsoft Office Suite - A high level of proficiency in: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and a database program such as ACT, which may be validated with testing.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

  • Work in a normal office environment. Will sometimes be required to work and/or attend meetings or events in public and at all LTD locations.
  • Monday through Friday 8am until 5pm
  • Occasional evening and weekends hours are expected and required for specific events and to reach all program participants.

Travel

  • Travel within the metropolitan area is required.
  • Occasional travel outside of the region may be required.
  • Successful candidate must have a valid driver's license with a clean record and will be required to pass the S.M.I.T.H. System training program within 15 business days of hire. (Training provided by LTD)
